I need to make some negative molds for vacuum forming. I have heard that Hydrocal works well but I'm having trouble finding a local source.
Does anyone know of an equivalent material that might be available at a Lowes or Home Depot? Or do I need to bite the bullet and just mail order some Hydrocal? _________________ BlindSquirrel

Take a look at the distributor locator from US Gypsum:

I would recommend using Ultracal for negative molds. It is supposed to pickup teency weency details, but remains strong.
Stay away from the Plaster of Paris that you find at Home Depot or Lowes. Maybe I mixed it in the wrong proportions (there were no instructions on the bag), but it was very brittle and left a chalky mess on everything it touched. Nasty!
Good luck!

I had better luck with Plaster of Paris - but if there is any fine detail, I found myself doing mold repairs after 2-3 pulls |
