For a 24"x24" table - the holding frame is usually 3/4".

This brings it down to the frame having a 22.5" inner height/width.
The platten is a 21.5" square - so if everything is centered there is a 1/2" gap on each edge.

I would say that is fine for 1/8" (0.125) ABS/HIPs.

I've got 1/2" of space between the platen and the holding frame, and have been able to pull .125 HIPS with no trouble. Also, the platen surface is 1/2" higher than than the level of the plastic in the clamping frame.

If the platen surface is the same as the plastic level, then the gap is not a factor (but then you may not get the tight pulls you are looking for.

Even more importantly, if the platen frame is BELOW the plastic, you will definitely NOT get a good seal!
