Picked up this puppy a couple weeks ago as I plan to start deer/elk hunting this year... Ruger American Rifle in .308 with a Leupold VX2 4-14X40 scope.

I got it NIB for $350 (over $100 below MSRP), and $10 for the background check from an FFL dealer.

I scored the Leupold VX2 from a local gun forum (www.northwestfirearms.com) classified for $400 (about $50 below MSRP), and the QD Leupold mounts set me back another $65 from Wholesale Sports (BTW- there's nothing "wholesale" about that place.. LOL)

I got it roughly zeroed in and doing consistent 2" groups (@100yds.) with el cheapo American Eagle 147-grn FMJ fodder ($16 a box). This morning I'm picking up one of my hunting partners (so he can zero in his new Weatherby .270) and heading to the gun range with Hornandy SST Superformance match grade ammo to run through this beastie.

Although 2" groups are basically good enough for deer/elk, I'm hoping shooting this primo stuff @ $35 a box will net me 1" or preferably sub-MOA (-1") groups, because according the all the reviews I've read on this rifle it is very capable of 1" (or less) shot groups... and I'm kinda OCD that way. Laughing

I'll post todays results when I get a chance!

Well... I forgot to post my shooting results from last July... Rolling Eyes

It took a while for me to "meld" with the rifle, and a few of those shot groups were a bit "squirly", but they started to tighten up as you can see in the blue, red, purple, and black outlined groups. The best groups were with Hornandy 150gr. SST rounds, and Remington 180gr. Core-Lokt was the one in the black outlined group. All groups shot @ 100-yds.

More practice, more practice, more practice!! You still wouldn't want to stand out there in front of me though... Wink
