Well, I've been wanting to make some see through visors for some Rebel Fleet Trooper helmets, only one problem, the PETG is a clear material. Lexan or Acrylic can be found in smoke gray colors, but PETG is easier to vacuum form IMHO. So, how do you get different colors? Easy. Get some RIT dye from the fabric store, and bring a pot of water to near boiling. [Do't boil the water, you just it hot to the touch. Dip your part into the hot water, and after a few seconds, remove from the hot water. If you have some cold water sitting on the side of the stove, this will help cool the material back down, and help seal the pores in the plastic, trapping the dye. Repeat until it is dark enough to suit your tastes! Be careful, if your water it too hot, it will warp your PETG. Any color, not just smoke gray is possible. Amber, red, blue, etc.
Wear rubber gloves, btw.

You can dye the PETG any color you want. Dip it more than once or twice for a rich dark color.
I'll get some pics posted as soon as I can get a decent shot taken.

The vision is good. Not milky or foggy in the least. The PETG has a few 'artifacts' from the pull. I'd say as good as you could hope for, IMHO.

I'll be waiting on that tutorial. Is is possible to make it reflective, particularly gold, like this?

You know.... you may have to go to a place like Tap Plastics and look into some "limo" window tinting or something like that... just a thought. _________________ Tony Krewson
