Photobucket is such a pia, I'm going to link this to another thread of mine on another forum.... You'll have to register it see the pics... This is the best site I've come across on metal casting, Big plus, It's an asshole free zone.... http://www.alloyavenue.com/vb/showthread.php?10049-Drywall-Mud-Shell-Casting...
Here's a few pics from that thread in case you're not interested in reading the link...
A skull casting, 7oz, a wax, and a finished mold ready for burnout.

Finished mold removed from base that holds the wax while the mold is made.

Mold after burnout, before casting.

After casting, partially broken out of mold..

Finished half skull with sprue base still attached, to be used for cane
top..

Had a few requests for these for cane tops and hiking staffs. A long screw was embedded in the wax this time to mount the skull more securely.. Sold two of the full skulls, drilled and tapped for mounting on shift levers...
Have a new idea for a ABS ball launcher for the dog... I tried one of the Chuckit ball throwers, think I can do better with a different type thrower that'll throw both golf and tennis balls even further... Made a mold with Ultra Vest 30.. Good stuff for small molds, to damned heavy for large ones... I'll start another thread if it works out...

Mark, how's your MechMate build coming along, what size is it?.. If I had one I'd like to build Kits for this boat... Really am kinda taken by it.. https://www.google.com/search?q=af-4+boat&client=firefox-a&hs=xhI&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=sb&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=bl7qU5OYG5aAygTs14KQBA&ved=0CB4QsAQ&biw=1152&bih=739#channel=sb&q=af4+boat&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&spell=1&tbm=isch

I finished it a couple of months ago. There is still some things I would like to do to when time and money permit. But overall, I am very pleased with capabilities in every way. My table size cuts just over 5' x 10'. The depth depends on a lot of factors (removable table, etc.) but a min. of 10".
If you have any interest, I highly recommend it...no problems with a task like your boat kit. There a some boat builders on the forum as well.
Here is a crappy little video of my machine if you want;

What software did you use for the CAD/CAM?

I am far from an expert on it (as I am still learning), but so far I like Aspire (CAD) and Mach3 (CAM) very much.
