Well, I just picked up these two classics, now with their 50th anniversary DVD editions, and must say they were a lot of fun.
Destination Moon was, a Georg Pal production, and for it's time a rather clever film. A serious attempt to go to the moon, the challenges, and obstacles facing such a poject. The ship model recently sold on ebay PIH auction! A color classic. Some of the FX shots were pretty good for the day. Others, not so good, LOL.
Rocketship XM, was part of the 2-Disc deal I got from Amazon.com, and really was just a bonus. The story is a bit more hokey, but there were a few tricks used, that were clever for the time, the sets were pretty good, and Lloyd Bridges starred in it, and they used s sepia-tone film color when the crew was on the surface! They even updated some FX shots! I guess that makes it a SE version. The ending was a surprise.
If you like old cheezy sci-fi, no DVD collection should be without these two classics. |
