Hi all,
Im going to have a go at building the vac table but have struck a bit of a hurdle, Im in Australia and none of the electrical side of things will be the same for here because we run 240v power. Any help with working out what gauge wire I would need will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Mitch

I know what u mean. I'm in Sweden so I had the same problem. I didn't use the wire that everyone else used. I used a 0,3 mm Kanthal-wire. I really don't know what it's called where u live. Anyway, since we use 220-240V, the trick is to make all the sections give the same ammount of heat.
The wire I used had a resistance of 19,87 Ohms /m. That means that a long wire would produce less heat than a short one. This means that u need to have more hot points. U have to parallell-connect more hot-wires.
I first used 8 metres of wire and it got up to about 50°C. When u halfen the hot wires and at the same time double the ammout of hot wires, u quadruple the heat. (Hope u understood that, cause I hardly did...)
So thats what I did. I now have a 8 metres wire thats curled (it comes up to about 20 metres in total lenght) and four hot-points. It works perfect.
Hope this helped somewhat.

Thanks for that, it is exactly what I needed to know. I will still use the nichrome wire because I can easily get that. I'll let you know how things go when I get it all happening.
Cheers
