I get asked a lot of the same questions over and over. So, for this month, I'll send some FAQs out:
Q: Any plans for the trooper molds available?
A: YES! Israel Franco made some first rate plans and has allowed me to share them: http://www.imperial-armor.com/Trooper-Templates.zip . These do not incldue the helmet.
Q: What about sealing MDF?
A: Use a sanding sealer, then sand, then seal again. Do this until you are as smooth as you want. NOTE, that the slicker the mold, the harder to release, and by having sanding marks on the surface, it will allow air to travel.
Q: Where can I get good resin?
A: www.smooth-on.com sells some great supplies for the prop maker. I use SmoothCast 320 for most of my stuff, with some SmoothCast 325 with dyes for those rare colored parts.
Q: What is the CMP?
A: The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) promotes firearms safety training and rifle practice for all qualified U.S. citizens with special emphasis on youth. The CMP operates through a network of affiliated shooting clubs and associations that covers every state in the US. The clubs and associations offer firearms safety training and marksmanship courses. The CMP sells surplus US military firearms to qualified US citizens to support the program. The CMP is about the only way to purchase a real USGI M1 Garand straight from US army depots. http://www.odcmp.org and http://www.odcmp.com . |
