Hi,
First I would like to thank Jim for his efforts on putting together this web site, the amount of information here is mind-boggling.
Also I would like to thank drcrash for all of his posts and information.
About 15 years ago I had started working at a helicopter modification center, and they had a large oven and vacuum table that they used to pull Kydex interior pieces with. By large, I mean 4 foot by 8 foot. A couple of times I got asked to assist in doing the pulling and thought it was interesting. Around that time I picked up a copy of Thurston James’s “The Prop Builder’s Molding & Casting Handbook” but never did anything with it.
Now I have decided to go ahead and build my own 24 X 24 table, based on TJ design.
I do have 220 in my garage, so I was planning on using that for the heaters.
Thanks to the post, there is a 4.5 CFM Thomas pump setting here.
I am planning on using drcrash’s dual vacuum source concept, makes sense to me.
(yes, I will take pictures as I go along and post, somebody needs to learn from my mistakes!)
My big worry is that I live in Colorado, 5330 feet above sea level. So I need to make sure that I can get the tank to the lowest pressure I can.
My background is in aircraft electronics, so I might be able to help with some of the wiring / electronics questions.

Mmm, Kydex. That's some nice stuff!
I think with your altitude, you won't achieve 29" of mercury no matter how long you run the vacuum pump, but I've been pulling at 25" with plenty of detail coming through. Definitely let us know how much vacuum you are able to pull, and welcome to the board!

Nothing like being fast on a reply, sorry about that.
Yes, on a standard day (aviation talk for 29.92" at sea level) there is only 24.59" of Hg out here anyhow. So even if I get the tank to 0, I'm only looking at 12 PSI.
It's coming along, taking longer than I thought. _________________ Never force anything, always get the bigger hammer. |
