|
|
Hey everyone, I have a vac-forming job that was requested. The person is making a queen amidala dress, and needs the large egg shaped pieces vac-formed. He's making the mold, but I need to find the right plastic. According to him, they used perspex acrylic on the original dress. I just check professionalplastics.com, but I had to ask for a quote.
Basically needs them to be thin enough to project light through and be able to paint it, any suggestions? Thanks!

As someone who's contemplating some of the details of this costume as well for my wife, she's always wanted to do that padme. That was the dress that dragged us into this costume hobby actually. She saw that in the movie, and was hooked.
I was planning just experimenting with plain old acrylic from the hardware store. Since it will be painted to get the colors right i figure it doesn't have to be perfectly clear.

Hobby Lobby sells acrylic in their stain glass section, and is much thinner than the Hardware stores. I'd say in the .060 range. Might be a good test canidate.

Hmm..I dont think they have the stores near me, but I'll check their website. I originally thought about using a thin acrylic or it. I'll also check out pro-plastics too. Thanks!

just to be 'clear' , I think 'perspex' is the European term for acrylic - nothing special about it.
You might try a thin PETG. It's clear and more durable than acrylic. _________________ <.o'> |

Yea, I found the PETG sheets on pro-plastics. I was wondering if anyone knows another source of this, but for a cheaper price? Or am I just kidding myself Thanks!

Have you checked the local hardware store? Both of my have sheets of thinner stuff that might work, and it's inexpensive.

Im still new to the area, and the only hardware stores I know of are the standard Lowes/Home depot. Niether of them sell PETG. Local places, I have to really search for.
