nice, very nice!
i think i will have to contact the ohio garrison and see what they think, thanks jim!
i was unawar that some 501st detatchments sold cheap helmets! ithink i will look for those, thanks!
one thing i need to really do is unify the suit. i have rotj here, and anh here, and jotj/esb here.... what am i?
anywho, love the feedback, i'm cool with the advise. like tony said (i think?), you guys are here to help me, and i like it!
jim, i'm not familiar with these spool-thinys you speak of, could you provide a pic?
i like that eBay helmet, looks like a good find. the only thing i don't like about it is its an auction... that normally discourages me about these helmets because usually they just elevate into chaos, and their sold for 4 times what they are worth, regardless of condition...
once again thanks a lot! i actually have some people at studio creations lookign for some helmets parts for me as we speak, and if i can get just the bare neccessities from them for $100-$175, that would be GREAT! _________________ -Alex

i just found the cheapest option and the highest quality helmet i have ever seen on eBay!!
http://cgi.ebay.com/Stormtrooper-Helmet-Kit-RT-Mod_W0QQitemZ320167282984QQihZ011QQcategoryZ60361QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
it ships from canada, and it's 0.080 inch thick ABS, with hardware, nice find!!
the only issue is he says he has orange-peel issues on the ABS....
now, this is an issue. what i can do is keep in touch with him, and ask him if he had any issues with heating (orange peel), and how can i fix it. what i'm thinking i could do is plaster cast the pulls, and see if i could get a good pull with styrene. or, i could fix the orange peel by lightly sanding it, or something. or i could spread something on top of it.
what do you thingk, should i go for it? or not?
hmmmmm....
$150 total, in my price range, but possible casting flaws....
gotta think about this. i can fix it... right?

The 'RT Mod' is a good option, and somewhat hard to find nowadays. Even if some orange peel was taking place, chances are you can fix that with some spot putty.
I don't know about local 501st members selling cheap helmets, if I gave you that impression I'm sorry, I don't know if they do or not, but many folks in the 501st know someone getting upgrades, leaving, changing costumes, etc. and may be able to help you out.
PM me for details.

Hi dude. i think you have done an amazing job. well done.
Im at the very early stages and have nearly completed 3 molds/plug and its taken nearly 4 months so far.
I think the other guys are right, and ive said this on other forums. The helmet is the main focal point on any armor. If it doesnt look right ,then it throw the whole"look" of your armor.
Ive seen some fairly good ones on the uk ebay go for 80 quid which is about $160+shipping.
T*E,TM,AP are all studio quality, but out of reach for the average person.
This is a hobby that is obsesive to say the least.
You will find that you are always doing mods to your molds.
This site is very supportive to all, and i applaud that.
Well done everyone and keep up the good work.

yeah, i like that helmet... a lot!
my parents say they might be able to get it for my for christmas, or if i can make the money quickly, i can buy the helmet!
jim, thanks for the helmet info, that is another helmet option for me!
i have studiocreations.com looking for helmets parts for me, i have this cheap RT mod helmet, i POSSIBLY have the 501st... i like it.
i think i will e-mail the ohio garrison and see what they say of my armor, i mean, like tony said, you never know. chances are, they're going to want to see the abs modified a bit, and the helmet, and maybe more.
thanks chefhawk for your comments, and the best of luck and wishes to your armor. if it's one thing you can learn from me, it's USE SOME REFERENCE AND TEMPLATES and DON'T BUY A RUBIES HELMET AND EXPECT TO GET INTO THE 501ST!
oh, what a hobby! _________________ -Alex

alright guys, little update for you:
i modified my ab/cod plate to agree with the rest of my suit (ie, ANH style)
check it out:
my workspace. tony is there to help, as you can see ( )
newly vacuum-formed ANH abplate. i like it. i like this A LOT!
this is how i add the buttons, with a permanent paint marker
the final product! will install sometime tomorrow...
if you want to see me vacuum-forming the abplate, check out the vacuum-forming and general stuff section. there, you will find a short video of me vacuum-forming it!

Looking good Alex! I think you have the overall shape down pretty good! You are going to wind up refining the details over time (just like Jim mentioned he does to his, LOL) Here are a few photos of "AP" armor parts that I gleaned from the web. "AP" is one of the main suppliers of "Movie accurate" armor in addition to "TE", TE2", "TM", and RT-Mod". Maybe you can pick up on some more of the subtle details and incorporate them into your molds as needed.
I'm going to be working on a set of Clonetrooper armor bucks in the not so distant future, so THAT will be interesting. _________________ Tony Krewson

The RT_mod is a good option.
The faceplate comes from T*E apparently, and stomper will tell you also ,that T*E has the best Molds in the buisiness.
This is going to be the cheapest option with the best end results my friend.
Hope this helps
Ill post some pics of my progress on another thread.

that aromr HAS to be ANH, because it's very streamlined-looking, and form-fitting to the human body (a 5' 10" 150 lbs man, to be VERY exact... ). i've seen styrene kits identical to this, and the excuse from the company is that you can't pull tight detail on ABS for stormtrooper armor... OH YES YOU CAN!
i love it, thanks again everyone.
BTW i LOVE the pic, chefhawk, going to show it to my family!

See that Alex? As Jim mentioned, the BUCKET is 80% of the Stormtrooper "look"... HUGE DIFFERENCE!! You will BLOW AWAY everyone in your "circles" when they see your armor with a more accurate bucket!! BRAVO!!! _________________ Tony Krewson

i have an update!
i recieved my blaster conversion kit, and this is the result:
hi-gloss black, no weathering, with a hi-gloss orange barrel tip!
YESS! love this blaster! full lights and sounds, too. on the counter box, you can see the lettering, too!!
also, i have information about a free helmet from studiocreations.com!
good deal, not BEST pull, but good for reference!
oh, and i have a few more armor pics:
with family...
i can SIT!!
ok, that should do it! _________________ -Alex

hmm...
i have a feeling this helmet might not be the cheapest option for me....
well, let's look at some options...
i know there are a LOT of helmets out there, ranging from $80-$600. i bought a rubies for $80. i regret this! now, i'm receiving some helmet parts from studiocreations.com, and i really don't feel like spending more money than i should on trial and error for a new helmet. i will likely spend $60+ using this method, and i don't think th results would be really worth it...
soooooo , if i decide these parts aren't going to cut it, what helmet type should i buy? i would like to keep the budget at $250 or lower! F/X, GF, AP, what? given that the top of my armor shirt (width of top of chest and back armor) of 32 cm (or about 12.5 inches (ish)), would an F/X helmet work for me? or would this be too big? would it make the overall look seem unbalanced?
if so, then i think i've found my optional helmet! if not, what's the next cheapest option? and where can i find this helmet?
thank you!
