I haven't posted much, but I really want to thank this board for all the info I've found here. I've accumulated all my stuff and am starting to build my table.

Basic table frame is a very nice metal workbench I picked up on sale for $60. 20x48.

I got 12 of these heaters on ebay for a song. 20% of new price:

I picked up an air driven slider designed for machine work that will lift my platen into the plastic from ebay, also for a song:

I already have a 3 stage vac motor and a vacuum pump laying around.

I'll report back after construction is complete. It will be the slider type heater with air driven platen.

It's at the welding shop. I can do many things well, welding is not one of them. I wanted pretty and strong, not just strong. They should finish up next week. Got a lot of irons in the fire right now.

It's probably too complicated for my first machine, but I like a challenge, and I want close to production quality.

If you don't mind, what kind of heaters are you using? I don't think anything would come up if I searched for 'Infrared Salamander' Razz

Try this ebay seller.

He has these things pretty often. I bought 12 of them for $75, new.

Well, that's great, you build your own table. Thank you for sharing your design. I will wait for your construction is complete, maybe it looks great, good luck to you. Very Happy

Wow, that site is like a gold mine.... for heaters!
I was struggling with the idea of making my own heather but I'd rather buy one and be done with it.

Please keep us posted as how you come along with your project.
I want to build a small unit, maybe 18" X 12" size. Don't need anything larger.

good luck!
