Hi.

I've just found this site and forum - what a fantastic resource. Very Happy

I'm in the middle of building my own vacuformer but due to size restrictions I have to go with the over/under design but I have some questions about the oven if anyone could help.

Do I need to create a 'chimney/flute' design on the oven facing downwards onto the plastic? I'm thinking of copying your oven design, Jim, and just turning it upside down to sit at the top of the former.

Would this help with heating the corners of the plastic or wouldn't it make a difference?

I also noticed that most of you have used the Thurston James design, is there a reason for this? Does it work better than the over/under design?

I have made both, and to be honest I like both designs. See this thread for some more of my opinions:

The Flip-flop is a wider machine, but can pull something the over/under would have a hard time doing, hemispheres. Not that these can't be done, but the machine might not have enough vertical clearance to do any big ones. The flip-flop designs only need 2 bolts taken off, and it can pull rather large ones [R2-D2 Dome size, on a 24x24 machine.] Shocked

Thanks, after reading that I think I'll have to make some room somewhere for a flip-flop design! Very Happy
