Little Red VAC-U-FORM Machine That Could

Just about the time I was completing construction of my 2x4 vacuum forming machine, a lady at work said that her sister's husband passed away who was a hobbiest. Among his collection of cool stuff was a 'Deluxe XL VAC-U-FORM' machine manufactured by Ron Charles & Associates in Wilmette, IL "America's #1 table-top vacuum forming equipment."

The platen top (actual forming surface) measures 16 3/4" x 10 3/4". It has four heating lamps and one vacuum motor. The machine is powered by 220V and is built of steel. The little sucker is heavy man. It's build like a tank.

Even though I was out a good chunk of change for the construction of the 2x4 machine, I could not pass up the the opportunity to buy this neat red machine for $300. Included with the purchase was a tiny little 'VAC-U-FORM' machine for kids by Mattel.

After spending so much time and effort building my 2x4 specifically for the auto lube store sign project, I was stressing about not having a machine when the project ends because I have no room to keep or store the 2x4 machine. It will probably need to be sold or disassembled. But thankfully now at least I have something to do small stuff with. It's weird how things work out sometimes. Very Happy

CF

P.S. I almost missed buying the red machine. I happened to mention my 2x4 machine to a lady at work and she said, "Hey, my sister has a small vacuum forming machine that she has no idea how to sell because no one she's spoken to even knows what a vacuum forming machine is."

Whoah! those cone/coil lights are something else! never seen that before!

another curious thing to me is I used to live in Wilmette, IL when I was in High school. Weird to try and imagine any sort of business coming out of there- It was a rather sleepy upscale suburb. Mebbe that is just where the guy had his mail sent Wink

nice looking machine tho.

ps, my 2x2 machine is a little small for some of the things I had in mind, so if you want to 'wheel-over' that 2x4 to the west coast ....... Wink

Looks a lot like the old 'Boba-matic'.
