I finally got my computer up and running again so here are the latest pics.
I was able to fully assemble all the heating elements and get them installed into the oven box. Doug's new heating element kit is pretty awesome...
The first thing you need to do is get all the nichrome wire ready to install onto the ceramic board.
Next, a screw is attached to both ends of the wire.
Then, using a jig you stretch out the wire to the desired length.
Using the template provided in the kit, you drill holes in the ceramic boards.
Then install the wire onto the boards.
One down, seven more to go!
Once all the of the individual boards were completed, it was time to install them into the oven.
Here is the top view of the oven.
After I finished the oven build, I decided to spruce up the cart with some ebony stain.
I also painted the frame with some grey "hammered metal" spray paint.
Tank is refinished and ready to install onto the cart.
Now its time to get everything put back together...

Well, after a few hours I finally got everything put back together.
Its really coming together quite nice. The tank fits just perfect on the cart and leaves just enough room for the pump.
Now its on to the platens...

Question for OP:
Did you need to weld anything?
I think one of the pictures was of a weld, so I assume yes, does that mean your an experienced metal worker?
I still want to do something like this but 1) I don't have enough room at my house , 2) I'm saving for a laptop now, 3) I have zero metal working skills. |

Yes, you need to have some basic welding skills to put one of these together...very basic. I am not a metal worker by any means and I was able to follow Doug's plans very easily. If you have a metal chop saw and a mig welder you can easily complete this project. I picked up all of the aluminum sheets for the platens this week. I am going to try and get some more completed this week.

Great. Good to know I don't have to have years of metal working classes under my belt. :p
Do you think a couple welding classes at a community college will be sufficient? (I.e. "basic welding"?) |

Absolutely! I have never been formally trained and I did just fine...and if I can do it, anyone can!
I got some more finished up this weekend. I cut out all of the wood for three different platens.
I picked up the aluminum for all three platens.
And I welded up and painted all three clamping frames.
Now I have to make an adapter for the carrier frame so I can use all three platens.

Even better; just go to YouTube, and you could find PLENTY of tutorials of MIG Welding, or just GOOGLE it under MIG WELDING TUTORIALS....and man, you'll see HEAVEN when it comes to tutorials....believe me.
Haven't tried any of them yet, but looks really neat. _________________ Robert
