Good questions.

I am wanting to start on an overhead oven too so I'd like to hear from anyone who has done this type of oven.

I would say to insulate the oven with some kind of fibre/cement board.I hear that aluminium is of the better heat reflectors as well so maybe line with that too?

I cannot say about the electric side of things,so I'd wait 'till the experts jump in Smile

Not sure... I'm just getting ready to start my oven, I'm just using hardi-backer and inverting the basic design listed here (Except at 32x24)

One word of caution, though... my understanding is you have to be careful heating Galv. metal. The zinc goes vaperous and the fumes can cause flu-like symptoms. I'd go aluminium or untreated steel or stainless if I were going to try metal at all.

Hmmm... which makes me think.. I have a pile of 18 Gauge stainless, maybe I'll do a metal hood too. It's just sitting there, and should be big enough... no idea how I would bend it though.

And, on the electrical you'd definitly need to insulate it from the metal. The cereamic standoffs should keep the coils from contacting, but your connection posts would have to be insulated somehow too.
