Resin Shelf Life

One thing I learned, the casting resin will only 'hold it's ginger' for about 5-6 months, so if you plan to make some castings, wait until your molds are ready to cast before purchasing resin. Once the seals on the bottles are opened, and the contents exposed to oxygen, the resin starts to oxidize. So, the shelf life counter begins. I tried to use some old resin, purchased last July. The exothermic reaction was slow, the color was yellow, and there were sediment that ammounted to big chunks in the bottom.

As expensive as this stuff is, don't waste it, just sitting on a shelf, use it as soon as you can. Fresh resin will react much faster, be more white in appearance and won't have grit in it.

As with all resins use in a well vented area. Also, keep the unused material away from direct sunlight, and in a cool dry place. [don't let it freeze]
