When building a new machine, or if you are having vacuum leak problems with your platen surface.
Before adding any troublesome silicone to the mess…
Simply polish the perimeter edge 1” top and side of your platen.
To do this:
Use a 4” grinder with a polishing bonnet and some red rouge.
The polished edge will provide a better slip and seal for the plastic.
I use 320 wet dry sandpaper to prep the edge before polishing.
You will be surprised by how many scratches you will find that rob
Vacuum from your pull.
