Ok I was told this by another person making small wooden skateboards like I am now.

Quote:
No, I use bondo to sand/shape my master molds. I don't even press decks with the Bondo molds. I replicate the bondo molds with this casting material which is super strong. Then I press the decks in the super strong molds. I know a few top deck makers use the same stuff. That's where I learned about it.

I am clueless when it comes to casting or making a mold other than with bondo.

The molds have to be strong enough to take allot of pressure in a vice to press layers of veneer together.

Does anyone know what type of material it is I need to make the master mold?

Thanks You all have been great.

I'm at a loss to understand what type of vice you have to press the veneers you are using. The only skate boards I've seen made used simple vacuume bagging. For example a 8x28 inch board would recive about 3,300 total pounds of evenly applyed pressure on each side. How many pounds per sq. inch do you need to form a skate board? I really have no idea that's why I'm asking...........Fredo

Don't know if you have been here yet, http://roarockit.com ,a more or less cheap way to get started. www.joewoodworker.com has free plans for a bagging system, and also a critque on the roarockit system. Since you already have a pump it would be an easy way to go. You may already have this info, but it still counts as one more post for me ........Fredo Laughing
