Hello everyone. Just found this place. I would like to build a vacuum former of some kind. I picked up a Precision Scientific D25 vacuum pump at a garage sale for 30.00 . I don't know much about it. I have never had a vacuum pump before. There is no fluid in the sight gauge. I need to know what kind of fluid it takes. I did not turn it on without fluid. I put my thumb over the hole, and turned the pulley by hand, and I could feel the suction. Is there anything to adjust?

Sorry for the long first post... Confused

Hi and welcome
Yes, you will need to put oil in that pump.
Here is what the manufacturer recommends;

They also sell pump oil at Home Depot, etc. for air compressors. I have used it in my pump with no problems, but you should decide for yourself on yours (or wait for more replies).
Best of luck
Mark

Hey 1troy7, welcome to the forum.

Around here CarQuest carries vacuum pump oil for the refrigeration style vac pumps. IIRC around $8-$9 per quart. Seems to work fine in my Varian D300.
