I was wondering, since now I have my T.J./jegner styled vac-forming machine up and running, with a generator outside to supply power to it... do the coils have to be BRIGHT RED, or barely visible when hot to have enough heat the HIPS plastic?
I'm running the generator and the setup as a 125V output (I think), but I've followed every single step as jegner have in his guide to build the oven side. Generator is a 3250w (4000w max) capacity, unless the generator is the "big player" in this kind of setup, regarding how hot the coils could get. _________________ Robert

The oven you built is probably quite sufficient to form HIPS. It does not have to be bright red. Remember that there are 3 functions to regulating heat exposure to plastic.. Time, Watt Density and distance. Focusing on 1 aspect without looking at the other two causes small issues...... |
