Just stumbled across this forum from RPF and realized there's good stuff going on and want in.

No immediate plans for building my own set up as I have access to one fairly regularly, but definitely interested in seeing how people make theirs for future reference.

Hope to see all your projects! Very Happy

Hey, welcome to the forum!
What types of projects do you do and what type of machine do you have access to?

I make stuff for theatre productions that are needed in plastic. Ranges from masks, to heads of staffs, boarders for frames, fake shingle pieces, skulls, etc. For personal projects I have my eye on some armour pieces that I'm designing myself.

We work with a very similar system to the one in Thurston James' vacuum forming machine from the prop building book. We have a 60L (15 gallon) air compressor connected to a single large table with a smaller one on top so we can either do 3'x3' or 18"x18" pulls depending on the size of piece. It's a lovely system that I hope to replicate Very Happy

Welcome MissManuella!

My friend just finished a sail boat race to Halifax Nova Scotia. It sounds like you're doing things straight out of the Thurston James Prop Making Guide. Very cool! Would you be able to post some pictures of parts you've vacuum formed so the rest of the board can see what's possible?

Occasionally I pop into the RPF, but I find it a little too intense and crazy over there Smile

bauer5152 and KateDaring52, newcomers interested in vacuum forming are always welcome on this board, however, spam bots with nefarious signatures are not. Jim, please ready the airlock to eject these undesirable elements.

Charlie
