Any thoughts on oven distance from the plastic?
At this point, plastic ranges from HIPS .030 - .080 and acrylic .118
My oven is currently at 7 inches from the bottom of the coils to the top side of the sheet (it is an overhead oven design).
Just wanted to see if you think that is a bit high or about right?
Thanks

Is the plastic heating fairly even without cold & hot streaks? If the plastic is too close it'll streak. Others may have a more experienced response.

No, it really seems to be heating ok (maybe shouldn't fix what isn't broken).
But it does seem to take a long time to heat up (especially the thicker acrylic).

Closer is always better but less than twice the element spacing starts to cause problems. _________________ Doug Walsh

How much time are you talking about? ABS is what I use and it's a lot different than Acrylic. But 1/8" black ABS would take around 5 -7 minutes starting with a cold oven and a minute or two less time after the whole system gets warmed up. But that's not a 100% oven capacity either.

A cold oven at 100%, 3 1/2 mins for .118 acrylic. Not sure if that is normal or if I could do better by bringing the oven in to maybe 4"?

I would think that's not bad. However, you could always experiement around. Acrylic is not my thing so I can only compare to ABS.
