I said I would post pics of my machine many many months ago and kinda forgot to. So here it is, finally. I made 3 platens, 2x2, 2x3, & 2x4. The handle seen to the left of the control panel is connected to a spring loaded ball valve on the tank. It operates the 2nd stage vacuum. It's pulled out to open the valve and then the spring pulls it back closed when released. I'm happy to answer any questions about the machine but it might take me awhile, I work a lot and am very busy most of the time so just bare with me if I don't respond right away. Thanks!

Wholly cow! That is one fine piece of vacuform machinery!!! If you have any pictures of you building it please post them.

Very well done. I love the different size platens. Very flexible.

Thanks for the posts.

Jeff

I bought the "fast heat" proto-form heating element kit. There is another 2x4 build thread in the forum that uses the fast heat kit and the result is exactly the same as mine. I did some research on making my own elements and decided not to hassle with it. Doug (proto-form) was a very big help and answered all my questions quite promptly so thank you Doug if you happen to read this. Sorry but I couldn't find any pictures from during the build. Thanks!

Here's a 3x4 oven build. http://www.tk560.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1598 There are a couple other proto-form type oven builds here. This one might also help with building a protoform type oven .. http://www.tk560.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1162&highlight=3x4+oven

It works great. I don't have prior experience vacuum forming but no problems yet.
