Hey Rob,
I built my former years ago for this purpose and also for other projects. PETG should be perfect for RC Bodies. I made tones in the past and painting was not an issue.
If you are having an issue with painting I have concerns. What brands are we using? Are you painting the bodies from the insides not the out side?
Also what thickness PETG are we using?
I'm Glad to help for I no longer do this anymore but happen to check the site to see whats going on here.
