Was digging back for an old thread about my table build, and found this one...
Guess that it would have been helpful to get photos posted at some point.
It doesn't seem like it has been over 5 years since I first built my table,
but it must be so - considering that I had it almost a year before I upgraded to the Gast pump.
Life has definitely been keeping me busy - and the table has gotten less usage than expected as a result. Last summer I managed to build a new workshop - and I'm looking forward to upgrading to a proto-form style machine (over/under) this summer. It is my hope that the easier operation will permit me more usage.
In prepping for the rebuilt - I've been starting to read through what folks have been doing with more recent builds:
I've been noticing is that the proto-form ovens seem to draw almost double the power from what my oven does. As a result - they are much hotter, and reduce heating time.
I'll most likely using the Proto-Form “Fast Heat” heating element kits for my next build
It looks like I really need to rethink the plumbing.
I had used 1/2" for most of mine (and I see many threads are using 1" - which should give 4 times the air flow.)
Only challenge that I see is that the tanks have 3/4" threaded openings,
though I should be able to aggregate them together.
Two 3/4" openings should have about the same flow as a single 1" opening.
Looks like I'm still good with my vac pump: Gast 1023 vac pump
Having two large Vac tanks (30 gal and 40 gal hot water tanks) might be overkill? (Mixed thoughts, as I already have them.)
And my platen (being mdf) leaks (despite being sealed) - so a metal one should be an improvement.
What else is new in the world of vac tables?[/list] |
