Very Nice!
One of these days, I'll need to do a GB proton pack!
Thanks for sharing the pic. |

Folks had a hard time identifying my getup until they got behind me and took a second look. Then I got a lot of "Who ya' gonna call?" as they recognized my getup.
I was a little concerned about how the officers would react, but I approached everyone with a smile and was first to say "Howdy! Anybody see any ghosts around here?!?" I think they were disappointed when my pack went through the X-Ray machine, since there was nothing to see inside!
I've got a few more people interested in working up Ghostbusters costumes, so we can have the whole crew next year!

Charlie, those pictures sure bring back the memories from when I was stationed at Ft. Mead where the NSA is!! The last time I saw the "Crapitol" Building was in '86 and it had scaffolding all around the dome for restoration. _________________ Tony Krewson

Thanks for the compliments!
I've got some video of us forming the base boxes for the backpack. It's made of two pieces, the round cyclotron, and the upper boxes. Initially, we tried making one piece molds, but couldn't release them from the plastic. Then we got smart and made the mold from separate parts held together with wood pegs. After the plastic is pulled, you remove the riser, and then separate the components.
Here's the cyclotron buck made from stacked MDF:
Here's a photo gallery with pictures of the bucks and the pulled parts:

Then a gallery showing a bunch of components added to the shell:

And even more components added:

We also pulled the goggles on the table:

But have since gone to a pre resin product with a squish mold (no pictures for that...)
I'll need to build a much bigger table to vacuum form the Cadillac! Apparently those vehicles are very rare, and folks in the Cadillac collectors community get really bent out of shape when they hear someone has converted an original into an Ecto-1!
There's no more scaffolding around the Capitol dome, but there's plenty of other construction going on. There's the green pole barricades that surround the entire Hill complex. Then the half-a-billion dollar Capitol Visitors Center project that has gone way over budget and schedule. Whoo-hoo, go government!

Wow. That's really impressive. Great job.
How much thinning are you seeing with those rectilinear sides of the proton packs? |

The sides are definitely the weak spot on the pack. Vertical surfaces and sharp corners are the bane of the vacuum forming process, and lead to over-stretched plastic. When we pull the upper boxes, that is the only mold on the platen, so there is plenty of plastic to stretch and cover the sides.
Fortunately, we add so much stuff to the pack (the L shaped ribs, plates around the cyclotron) that they help to reinforce the thin areas.
