I'm wondering if anybody is interested in adding a database to vac gallery, or separate.
it could cover things like:
size, watts, volts, amps, max draw, plastic thickness used, cycle time, oven temp, total cost , weight, square area, etc.....
for each person's designs. _________________ <.o'> |

As I said in my intro, here I go jumping into this... Probably way over built, but oh well. I have been tracking the costs, you really don't want to know. The stand was from an old lathe, so at least I did not have to build it.
As the good doctor wisely requested, I have moved the in work pics to "Way over built, but it is fun" along with some new shots.
It is in ONE PIECE!

that looks VERY professional, nice work!!
there should be around 484 1/8" holes on the platen.... get someone with another drill to help you, it'll go A LOT faster!
what do you plan on doing with this vacuformer?
keep up the fine work! _________________ -Alex

mnttech, can you start a separate thread and re-post your pictures there?
I have a bunch of comments but they're mostly minor and/or might start interminable discussions, and I don't want to clog up the gallery thread with that.
Also, it'd be helpful if your pictures were no more than 800 pixels wide. Big pictures mess up the formatting, at least for some browsers. (Lines end up really long and the thread doesn't fit in a normal-width browser window, so you have to scroll right to read the text.)
We should probably have FAQ answers about posting pictures and videos, and guidelines for what belongs in the gallery thread. (I'm thinking the gallery thread should be for a very few pictures of each machine, and a brief discussion of its distinctive features, with pointers to other threads for extended or detailed discussions.) _________________ Paul (a.k.a. Ah, but as you can see, I'm already done! I had done the math too. It was not just the drilling, but all of the de-burring that was fun! The platen is somewhat easily changeable, I thought I might try this for a while, then build a single hole version and see what works the best.
I plan on making some out door Christmas items, like the extra large light bulbs you see in some ads. That and some Kydex items for work every once in a while. In part, a lot of the fun is just making the tool!
Thanks for the comments!
Dr. Crash,
Thanks for your ideas and suggestions. I look forward to your comments. Please let me know if the pictures are the correct size, used photo bucket to resize them, but they look the same on my pc (even did new links...) _________________ Never force anything, always get the bigger hammer. |

Hi, I built this machine over a couple weeks for about $50-60. Its a TJ style machine with a bit of a twist, or should I say fold . I built it to hopefully make rc car bodies, but now that I've built the vacuum forming machine I think that was easy part. So far I've only been able to test the oven alone, which heats up great, because I dont have any plastic yet or molds for that matter. Its relatively compact and "portable" at 30 x 30 x 11 inches and only 91 lbs. Anyway heres a couple pictures...

Nice work!!
That is pure genius having it fold up and be ultra-portable...
I am finding that the molds are a bit harder to create than the oven was also, ALOT more details. Lots of fun though......
Again, nice work.

Very cool!
Thanks for sharing! I like the idea of it folding up for storage!
