I'm not one for horror films, as my interests are mostly in vintage sci-fi. But, from time to time I'll venture down the creepy cooridor to the Horror genre, as both horror and sci-fi share a lot of common ground. I'd like to draw attention to a British movie and TV production complany Hammer. In the 1950's Hammer got the wild idea to retell the old Universal monster stories, with updated color, and gore. Employing both Peter Cushing, and Christopher Lee, as Dr. Frankenstein, and Count Dracula, along with many other quality British actors. Hammer managed to crank out some really neo-classic versions of some of my horror favorites. Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy, the Wolfman, and others. Productions on these and other films, continued until the 1970s. Hammer's hay-days were in the 1950's and 1960's, and if you are a fan of classic monsters, Hammer is on the same pedestal as Universal in my books.

Thats not to say, Hammer made some duds, they did, but all in all, even these duds, like The Mummy's Shroud, are still watchable. Check them out next time you have a chance to kill a weekend. Horror, sci-fi, period films, dramas, and comedys, Hammer did them all, but they are most remembered for Peter Cushing's mad, Dr. Frankenstein, and Christopher Lee's Dracula.
