I was looking around my hometown for a place
where I could get heating elements and since
im not very experienced in the area, I figures
I'd see what you had to say about some of my

Is there anything else that I could use as a
heating element in my vacuuform machine?
other than Nichrome wire that is.

Does the metal of the heating element have
to be a certain alloy, or will any metal do such
as copper etc?

If there is an alternative to the Nichrome wire,
what is it and does it work as well?

Also, what are your suggestions for making
a "first-time" mold? Im new to the whole "vacuuform"
area and Im not sure how i would go about making
a mold. Such as whats thwe easiest material to
make a mold out of etc.

Thanks ahead for your help.

Be careful substituting heater elements. You don't want to start a fire. The best place to get the wire is www.infraredheater.com. Ask an electrical engineer or someone who makes heat elements for guidance. What you are inferring could be dangerous. I too tried to avoid the purchase of the specialty wire. I wasted lots of time and in the end, the nichrome wire is the only good option.
