Well, I remember watching Logan's Run in the movie theater, back in the 1970's. The Sandman Flamegun to this day is one cool prop that needs to be in my collection, right next to the TOS Star Trek Phaser II, Aliens M41-A Pulse Rifle, and Star Wars Stormtrooper E-11. One of theses days, I'll get around to making one, a working version, just as soon as I finish that PDK Blade Runner blaster. For now, here is a pic:

WOW That is quite a muzzleflash. Have you considered powering it with propane, rather than that dangerous combination you'd told me they used?

Yes, propane would work much better. The old system used calcium carbide rocks and a tiny water cylinder to generate the acetylene gas used for the flame effect.

I have seen some use magaicians pyro effects, some sort of gun cotton, and an electric sparker. Still expensive and dangerous to use.

A propane powered version would be mucho better! The basic shape and construction is pretty simple, something I like about it, and plans are available online. The trick is the fuel, and spark.

I suppose, with an electric ignitor, and a small cigarette lighter, that might do the trick!
