WOW, Alex!

Your armor has come a loooong way from where you first started! It's looking really good in those photos. It looks like you are now at the point to where you will just be doing "detail tweaking" from here on out to zero in on "uber" screen accuracy and appearance! Well done!! Wink

thank you very much, guys!

well, it looks like i'm beating around the bush again. since it's woefully hot up here, i decided to look at my blaster. "it's all shiny and new-looking." i said to myself. then, i had a little debate regarding weather or not to weather it or keep it shiny. then i ran into DAVE'S GARAGE, EPISODE 11, YOUR WEAPON OF CHOICE on youtube, and he said something that made my decision....

"...A WEAPON NEVER STAYS SHINY FOR LONG..."

so, i weathered the blaster. PROPORLY. Wink i dry-brushed silver on the "metal" bits, but brushed gold on the scope, because the original tank scopes were a gold color (cast in brass?).

i also "chipped " some sides and corners that would've been highly-exposed areas with a silver paint marker.

the result is sepctactular! i will try to get pics in tonight. Very Happy

OOH, OOH, OOH!!!....Real Hengsler Counter Casting....OOH! Shocked (drooling at the same time)

Not bad doing an ANH-type blaster mod, looks like the weapon itself went through the SARLACC PIT back and forward as Boba Fett, licked, biten, thrown at the pit again, and just going through hell..... Razz and even though the sight looks like a real "brass" piece as the real one was made (I believe), but I suggest to just do that to every corner, and not just the entire thing. I suggest you to take some lens material, like the ones for FLAT LENSES, cut in size/shape to fit the front of the sight (where the "cross line" is located....just carefully opening the cap by praying with a flat head screwdriver, since the cap is attached with some glue, cut the cross shape and make it round, to then install the little lens material inside the cap....not to forget to add HOT GLUE to at least one side from the inside before putting together, just to make it look realistic once you install the cap back in place.

Looks nice, but a little like a weapon from 3000 years (KOTOR) times type of weapon, when it's actually from the Galactic Empire (not even 20 years old).

Just IMHO...but looks cool.

Laughing

thank you. i was just looking at it this morning, thinking "wouldn't it be coo to have some type of lens in there?" i think i'll look into that. also, t-tracks, maybe??

i like the scope and all its brassiness, and i thought i had too much there too. BUUUT... i think i like the look. it kinda sets it off from the silver. but, just in case, how would i make it less brassy? just dry-brush some black on top?

thanks again. Very Happy

made some progress last night, posting today...

i'm really liking the new mods so far. the plaster on the chest is going to take a little while longer to dry, but when it does, it's just sanding, and then i'm done! i need to get some more spot putty though, plaster is gone! oh well. $5 more going down the toilet.... Wink

anyway. here are some pics showing... well, progress:

my workstation! Rolling Eyes

the chest. looks like cake.

side veiw. notices it's not exactly flat anymore! Smile

NOW THE CALVES:

ok, now that you folks have an idea of how i cobbled-on the curve, here's how it turned out:

it looks top heavy because of the angle of the shot. i tried to emphasize the curve.

ahh, there we go.... a nice curve. Smile as for the chest, it's just cake. Laughing

that's what's new so far, going to sand, sand, sand today and probably tomorrow, will keep you posted.

ok, i have bondo applied to the calves now, and just waiting on it to dry and such. i gotta come up with $30 to buy some HIPS... Shocked

going to sand all that down tomorrow, and maybe the chest MIGHT be dry by then, too, so i can sand away at that, too. Smile

by the way, the chest is still a cake: Laughing

enjoy! Very Happy

WOW!

Like Tony said, looking better all the time. And before you know it, you will be like Paul, constantly tweaking the molds for years, looking for the ultimate in screen accurate armor!

Well done, I'm really liking what you are doing!

thanks all! that's the idea, jim. to have SUPER accurate armor, made with my own two hands. Very Happy

i like the comments. Smile

going to hook you guys up with yet another update. nothing big with the calves, i've sanded them down to get a nice finish on them:

those are officially FINISHED and ready for the forming table... Mr. Green

and the chest is coming along:

the side veiw. BIG PECS! Very Happy

i'm thinking i'm going to wind up trimming off about an inch off the bottom, and maybe adjusting the curve there, too, while i'm at it just to make it more accurate. what do you guys think??

original TE chestplate compared to mine:

the overall shape of mine is a little different, but what i'm looking at is the bottom portion. should i trim an inch off the bottom? what do you guys think? Confused

thanks all Very Happy
