hmm...

i have a feeling this helmet might not be the cheapest option for me....

well, let's look at some options...

i know there are a LOT of helmets out there, ranging from $80-$600. i bought a rubies for $80. i regret this! now, i'm receiving some helmet parts from studiocreations.com, and i really don't feel like spending more money than i should on trial and error for a new helmet. i will likely spend $60+ using this method, and i don't think th results would be really worth it...
soooooo , if i decide these parts aren't going to cut it, what helmet type should i buy? i would like to keep the budget at $250 or lower! F/X, GF, AP, what? given that the top of my armor shirt (width of top of chest and back armor) of 32 cm (or about 12.5 inches (ish)), would an F/X helmet work for me? or would this be too big? would it make the overall look seem unbalanced?

if so, then i think i've found my optional helmet! if not, what's the next cheapest option? and where can i find this helmet?

thank you!
Smile

The FX helmet is large. Really big, IMHO. About 20% larger and on thin troopers or short troopers it makes one look like a bobble head figure. If you are 6 foot 200lbs, you can get away with it, but IMHO, a movie accurate helmet is the way to go.

AP might be a good option, but I have no clue how expensive it is. GF is underground now, and TE has sold his molds to a guy in HI. Goes by TE2 now, IIRC, and again, no clue to the cost but my guess expensive. Now that Ainsworth makes em [much expensive], and Master Replicas does too,[ready to wear] my guess is, you should be able to pick up a kit for less than $250.

Those miss pulls from studiocreations are pretty soft. Not sure you can do much with them. Plus a dome and ears. You would put a lot of work into making that helmet look decent, but with the detailing so soft, I'd keep it as a plan 'B'.

Just some ramblings about the helmet. BTW, the suit looks great on you. Really like tha sitting down shot!

yeah...

my sister wanted to try on my armor, so she did. it's kinda pathetic at how short she is, 5'7", but it actually looks ok!

here are some pics, and a little video to show how hard it was for her to walk around. when she took off the armor, she started screaming and saying how good it was to walk and do regular functions again!

hehehehehehe....... Twisted Evil

and the video!

"are you gonna show this to your...friend on the.....forum?!"

Twisted Evil

Laughing

enjoy!

ok......

i have an idea that'll bring me some good money for a trooper helmet FAST...

sell the helmet i have now, plus:

1. a full armor set
2. instructions
3. webbing, hardware, ect.
4. foam!!
5. extra plastic
6. the second replacement kit that came with my blaster resin conversion kit
7. helmet (rubie's/don post) with foam and helmet fan kit (fans...?)

my mom made me a deal. she said i could buy the material IF i get good grades for the quarter in school. Shocked

i was thinking of selling the kit for......

$565.00 (?)

i'm thinking this is good, considering the price of other kits on eBay (yes, i would like to sell this on eBay, (buy-it-now)), of around $675-$2,000!

what the downfall would be is my helmet, i think.

does anyone else have a better appraisal for my armor? more or less? just right?

will appreciate it very much!

just check out my armor pics and you'll get of good idea of what the guy will get.

if i sell the armor at my price, then i will come out with a $300-$315 profit!

Very Happy

UPDATE:

going to upgrade to one of paul's stunt-style stormtrooper helmets to pull my armor together. i just need to raise the $200+ to buy it! i'm thinking of selling my old helmet, and including the foam, fan system, and anti-fog spray.

i already have around $130 set-aside, and with the selling of my old helmet, i think i can raise enough money. if not, eh, i'll wait. get a job... or something. Wink

UPDATE:

i made a holster! some pics...:

made of the thinnest, most textured vinyl i could find, sewed, glued, bolted and snapped together. i had to tough-up those edges with a black marker, as there was white showing.

with the blaster in the holster. made some minor changes to the blaster, had to re-paint some areas due to the parties/events i attended. i also painted the ejector silver, and i really like the look of it.

so that's the latest!

i have also been thinking about thermal detonator colors. currently i have black, but ANH has light blue, and most costumers have silver...

may have to modify it to be silver. what do you guys think?

thanks.

UPDATE:

i continue to make minor modifications to my armor while waiting on an update from paul. my guess is his helmet is perfect for the job, but i just want to see what i'm buying, with attention to the casting flaw.

let's see... i have:

1. painted my thermal detonator silver, looks really nice
2. exteneded my codpiece, as it was too short and small looking. once again, excellent in proportion to the drop boxes now (ie, they don't look too big anymore (tony, thank you Smile ))

3. modified my blaster a little: i painted the ejector silver, and varnished, and added the signature squiggly wires going from the counter box to the cylinders.

4. i attepted to pull some new drop boxes, thermal detonator plate, and belt, but i failed. oh well. i got a good detonator plate out of it though (i think) Rolling Eyes

so yeah, basically small improvements waiting for paul. once i get paul's helmet, i will update you guys with some pictures, and see how this armor has changed. Smile

thanks
Very Happy

alright, here's here's the latest and greatest:

i recieved those pictures from paul, and here they are:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v171/the_prop_master/P5130342.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v171/the_prop_master/P5130343.jpg
here, he is pointing out a slight flaw in the cast. i can't see it here... Smile

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v171/the_prop_master/P5130345.jpg
here, i can see some kind of SLIGHT crack in the mold. no biggy! Very Happy

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v171/the_prop_master/P5130347.jpg

the parts are rough-trimmed, and have VERY prevelent trim-marks on them to signify where to detail trim the parts out. there aren't any marks on the ears, as far as i can see...

i'm buying this, along with the lens, trim, and hopefully paint and areators. i have foam at my house i can use to suspend and hols this on my head. i also have window screen for the mouth grill, too. i'm going to need to buy some new fans for this helmet, i think, and find a new way to mount the headset mic to the inside, but this should be no big deal.

so there's the latest. Very Happy

ok, going to look at the back plate soon (hopefully). my current version of the back box is about 1 3/4" high off the mold. is this too high? i have a feeling it should be about 3/4" off. i also have to re-size it lengthwise and widthwise, using some reference. jeez, i may have to take off around 1"-1 1/2" off all sides! after this, i just need to get some HIPS, vacuform this stuff, and add it to my current armor.

i've modified these parts so far:

1. left knee mold complete, needs to be vacuformed
2. drop box molds completed, need to be vacuformed (i actually think these don't need to be done, now that my codpiece is longer)
3. TD control panel, now more accurate. eh, i think my current control panel looks fine, but if i need to change it... i will.
4. codpiece has been lengthened. i felt this was neccissary by comparing photos. also makes the drop boxes look better, hence the explaination in #2

what i need to do now:

1. modify chest with bigger (thicker, higher) pecs, vacuform
2. modify upper back with smaller box, vacuform
3. vacuform new left knee armor
4. vacuform new drop boxes (?)
5. vacuform new TD control panel (?)
6. get better helmet (arranged with paul)

so i'm almost through with your list, tony, making modifications i thought neccissary along the way! Very Happy

oh, and jim, how high is your upper back box off the main back piece?

thanks Very Happy
