Here is the first batch of pictures of my 1:1 Cyclone costume at its debut at DragonCon.

http://www.chrislee.tv/costuming/anime/cyclone/cyclone_dragoncon2007_set1/index.html

I won Best Novice in the Masquerade costume contest - there were 60 entries and what looked like about 3000 people in the audience.

Kari Byron and Grant Imahara from Mythbusters were the emcees... and I was exhausted by the time it was over so that's why I look goofy in some of the pics...

If you're interested, the project page for the costume on my site is:

Here I am with my fellow 501st buddy Ross after I won at the Masquerade:

Well done costume, BTW.

Wow! Incredible work!

I see in some of the pictures your assistant was providing some back support. It definitely looks like the bulk of the costume is on your back, and the width of your wheels must make it very tough to get through doorways. Nice job getting the tread on the foam tires, and the hubcaps fit right in perfectly!

So, did the MythBusters folks think the "MB" on your boots was for their show?!? Razz

I haven't found any video of your appearance at DragonCon on YouTube, but I did find Blair Heald in a Scott Bernard Cyclone:

Thanks!

The costume is too bulky to go through doorways or to fit in elevators at all. It has to be transported in pieces to the destination and then assembled and put on me there.

The tread was a happy accident. I used dark gray eggcrate foam sandwiched together. When cut into a circle, the wavy ridges from the eggcrate chapes show through, giving the effect of tread.

I love it, and think it is super cool! I do have a question, why did you go with missles out? They look neet, just wanted to know. =)

Because I didn't have time to finish the missile pod covers...

Looks like Robotech is going to the big screen, with Toby Maguire:
