Here is some ammo I found. Quite the surprise, as for years, I assumed this was M1 Carbine ammo. Much to my surprise!
Some more details here:

Is this a common way to pack these ammo boxes?
All I can think is, 'thanks Papaw, what a surprise!' |

Very cool find!
My gun buddies at work are very impressed
My friend Tim who was in the Army several years ago, says they received their ammunition in the same wooden boxes. After practicing at the range, they would pick up all of the brass, put it back in the ammo boxes, then stack them in the wooden crates to be sent back to the manufacturer.
Are you saying you found this |

This was among some of the stuff that belonged to my late grandfather. He was a State Trooper, and taught firearms safety at the academy. This has been in storage for years, as a heavy box that sat in the back of a barn, I never really paid much attention to it. I was cleaning things up, found it and was surprised to see what was inside! As a fan for the WWII M1 Garand, it's delightful to find out I have some USGI ammo to go with my rifle! |
